MVYLI Accomplishments 2010-2014

The Martha’s Vineyard Youth Leadership Initiative’s mission is to train young people to become leaders in their lives, their community and our world.  MVYLI’s year round programs include Youth Leadership Summit for Sustainable Development, Career Mentoring/Workforce Development (Job Shadow Day), College Prep/Field Trip & Scholarship Program. MVYLI youth serve on the Governor’s Statewide Youth Council All Vineyard youth (14-21 years) attend programs at no charge.   

 

MVYLI Programs

• Youth Leadership Summit for Sustainable Development: 2010-2014

A weeklong leadership intensive where youth envision their dreams for their lives, their islands and the world.  The Summit is the foundation for MVYLI’s year-round leadership program.  In this highly interactive learning environment, youth work with our faculty to develop action plans. Over 80 youth have served delegates.

• Career Mentoring/Workforce Development (Job Shadow Day): 2010-2014

• College Prep, Field Trip & Scholarship Program: with visits to 20 colleges in Massachusetts: 2010-2014

• Scholarships: MVYLI youthare all accepted/attending four-year colleges. We assist them in receiving over $800,000 in scholarships. MVYLI gives small scholarships to all MVYLI seniors.

MVYLI is a project of the Stone Soup Leadership Institute, a 501c3 non-profit organization founded in 1997 on Martha’s Vineyard.   The Institute hosts the Annual Walter Cronkite Awards Ceremony to benefit MVYLI.  For over a decade, Mr. Cronkite was the Institute’s honorary chairperson. 

Vineyard Community supports MVYLI has partnerships with non-profit organizations. We’ve received in-kind donations from over 70 Vineyard businesses.
