Cerina Gordon Future Green Engineer

Bella is a junior at the MV Regional High School.

She served as a youth delegate to MVYLI’s 2011 Youth Leadership Summit for Sustainable Development. She has been actively involved with MVYLI’s College Prep & Field Trip Program visiting Brandeis University and Babson College.  

Bella is President of Young Sisters Mentoring Group and helped organize a food drive at Thanksgiving and a winter coat drive.

Bella is a member of MVRHS Model UN, a club that holds mock trials of the United Nations and travels annually to New York City.  

 She was in the UNICEF Committee studying children and AIDS and children tracking. She was matched with the countries of Angola, Africa (2011) and Côte d’Ivoire, Africa (2012).

Bella was born on the Caribbean island of Bequia, in St. Vincent and the Grenadines. Her dream is to have a position for a company/organization working with developing nations and help develop a plan to maintain a better country.

Cerina is a National Honor Society senior at MV Regional High School.

She served as a youth delegate to the 2011 Youth Leadership Summit for Sustainable Development.  She participated in the MVYLI Bioneers-by-the-Bay Conference.

As part of MVYLI’s College Prep & Field Trip Program, Cerina traveled to the University of Massachusetts and met with sustainable building leader Professor Dave Demry.

Cerina worked with the Trustees of the Reservation on the Island Bee Survey and volunteered
for the Martha’s Vineyard Shellfish Group.

A member of MVYLI’s 2020 Sustainable Vineyard Team, Cerina is developing the section on sustainable building for the report that will be presented to the Town of Tisbury Selectmen and the All Island Selectmen.

In the fall, Cerina is attending Drexler University in Philadelphia. She is a bio-chemistry engineering major.

Andrew Randall and Eva Faber Future Farmers

 Emma is a National Honor Society senior at MV Regional High School. She is a founding member of the Martha’s Vineyard Youth Leadership Initiative.  She served as a youth delegate to MVYLI’s 2010 and 2011 Youth Leadership Summit for Sustainable Development.   In 2011 Emma was the youth coordinator of MVYLI’s Job Shadow Day. She also mentored with The FARM Institute.  She is now doing her senior project there. She also helped organize a Martha’s Vineyard Farmers’ Roundtable with the Massachusetts Farm Bureau Federation.

Emma was selected to represent MVYLI as the Dukes County representative for the Governor Patrick’s Statewide Youth Council. She just co-led the Black-Out Anti-Bullying Campaign at MVRHS.

Emma was on the Field Hockey team for four years and won their Sportsmanship Award.  She is co-president of Safe Rides.   Emma made an inspiring presentation on the MVYLI Sustainable Vineyard Map at the 2011 Annual Walter Cronkite Awards Ceremony.  Her speech is featured channel: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kbD9dU4XiCo

Emma is studying sustainable agriculture in New Zealand for her gap year. She will then attend Hampshire College.

 

 

Eva is a senior at MV Regional High School. She is a member of the National Honor Society, ranking in the top 6% of her class. Eva served as a youth delegate to MVYLI’s 2011 Youth Leadership Summit for Sustainable Development. She participated in the MVYLI’s Bioneers-by-the-Bay Conference. Eva is a Safe Rides board member, 2010 winner of the MVRHS Science Fair, founder of the MVRHS for Haiti Relief Group and organized benefit concert for Red Cross, Wheaton Book Club, studied Spanish for 11 years, journalist for the MVRHS High School View. Eva organized a yearlong research project on blue claw crabs funded by the Marjot Foundation. A member of MVYLI’s 2020 Sustainable Vineyard Team, Eva is developing the section on sustainable energy for the report that will be presented to the Town of Tisbury Selectmen and the All Island Selectmen.

Andrew Randall is an honors senior at MV Regional High School specializing in horticulture. He participated in the Career and Technical Education (CTE) Program. Andrew served as a youth delegate to MVYLI’s 2011 Youth Leadership Summit for Sustainable Development. He participated in the MVYLI Bioneers-by-the-Bay Conference. A member of MVYLI’s 2020 Sustainable Vineyard Team, Andrew is developing the section on sustainable cultures for the report for the Town of Tisbury Selectmen and the All Island Selectmen. Andrew is a member of Safe Rides and the Model United Nations Club. Andrew is OSHA certified and has worked on two Vineyard farms: Woodbe Farm and Pond View Farm. He has his own successful landscaping business. In the fall, Eva and Andrew are attending the University of Vermont.

Jacob is a junior at MV Regional High School and a proud recent inductee into National Honor Society. Born and raised on Martha’s Vineyard, Jacob is actively involved in the MVYLI College Prep & Field Trip Program where he visited Brandeis University, Babson College and videoconference interview with Andrew Young School of Policy Studies at Georgia State University.

Jacob is a star athlete including the Eastern Athletic Conference champion soccer team and MVRHS Track and Field Team. Jacob is a member of the Minnesingers, traveling to Croatia in 2013.

Jacob is a member Young Brothers to Men Program where he helped organize a food drive at Thanksgiving and a winter coat drive. He is a member of the Model UN Club and Angola and the Ivory Coast, Africa. He is an amateur photographer.

Jacob hopes to one day become a management consultant for a finance firm.

Julia is a junior at MV Regional High School. She is a member of the National Honor Society, a Varsity Tennis player, and a member of the Minnesingers, who are traveling to Croatia in 2013.

She served as a youth delegate to MVYLI’s 2011 Youth Leadership Summit for Sustainable Development. 

Julia is looking forward to graduating from MVRHS and going on to a liberal arts college to further develop her interests in math and sciences and figuring out where her life is going while also continuing to pursue her hobbies in the arts.  

 Born in Manchester, CT and moved to the Vineyard with her parents shortly thereafter.

 From a young age, Julia has dreamed of becoming an architect, mathematician or psychologist, and is looking forward to furthering her education and achieving success.

Shelby Ferry, Future Nurse

Shelby is a founding member of the Martha’s Vineyard Youth Leadership Initiative. She served as a youth delegate to MVYLI’s 2010 and 2011 Youth Leadership Summit for Sustainable Development.   In 2011 Shelby participated in MVYLI’s Job Shadow Day with psychologist Karen Krowski PhD. 

A senior at MV Regional High School, Shelby is a member of National Honor Society and she is a historian for that.  She is co-president of Safe Rides, a student run organization.

Shelby was a member of the Lacrosse and Cross Country teams for four years, where she served as captain of both teams this year.  She is outgoing and involved with many activities including Model UN for 3 years where she is currently a co-president. 

Shelby loves bike riding, running, and listening to music. She also loves trying to help people and especially her friends and family.

Her friends always come to her with their problems and whenever they get hurt, she tries her best to help them. That is why she wants to go into the Nursing/PA profession because she loves helping people and trying to make them laugh especially when they have gotten hurt or are sad, and it usually always works!  Shelby was born at the MV Hospital.

In the fall, Shelby will be attending the University of Vermont.

 

 Je’Vaughn is a senior at MV Regional High School.

He served as a youth delegate to MVYLI’s 2010 and 2011 Youth Leadership Summit for Sustainable Development. Je’Vaughn has been actively involved with MVYLI’s College Prep & Field Trip Program. He has visited the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth and participated in a video conference interview with Tuskegee University, Alabama.

In 2011 for MVYLI’s Job Shadow Day, Je’Vaughn was interested in becoming a computer technician, and was matched with Pat Gregory at Educomp. He is featured in MVYLI’s 2011 Job Shadow Day video.

Je’Vaughn is a member of MVRHS Varsity Football team who won the prestigious Island Cup between Nantucket and Martha’s Vineyard.

Having experienced several injuries during the football season, he learned to appreciate the importance of physical therapy first hand.

Je’Vaughn is Vice President of the Young Brothers to Men Program where he volunteered for the Living Local Harvest Festival and helped organize a food drive at Thanksgiving and a winter coat drive.

Born in Jamaica, he was voted by his classmates as King of the Junior Prom, Je’Vaughn is one of the beloved students, always ready with a kind word, a hug, and positive words of encouragement.

In the fall, Je’Vaughn is attending Cape Cod Community College and then the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth.

Shavanae is an honors Junior at the MV Regional High School. She is the youngest founding member of the Martha’s Vineyard Youth Leadership Initiative. She served as a youth delegate to MVYLI’s 2010 and 2011 Youth Leadership Summit for Sustainable Development.  In 2011 Shav participated in MVYLI’s Job Shadow Day at Martha’s Vineyard Hospital with Operating Room managing nurse Barbara Morgan.  As part of MVYLI’s College Prep & Field Trip Program, Shav has visited Simmons College and the University of Massachusetts Amherst.

She is a Junior Member of the NAACP on Martha’s Vineyard.  As a concerned future doctor, she created with her sister, Amoy and friend Shawna Brown, an inspiring presentation on Cultural Health for the NAACP Juneteenth conference. 

Shav was trained as MVYLI’s intern at Martha’s Vineyard Community Television.  With Meagan McDonough and Amoy, she filmed and co-produced the video Passing the Torch in honor of Amnesty International’s 50th Anniversary with Harry Belafonte, Dr. Henry Gates Jr., Rose Styron and others.   The video was premiered at the Martha’s Vineyard International Film Festival.

Sivana Brown, Future Financial Planner

Sivana Brown is a Junior at MV Regional High School.

Sivana served as a youth delegate to MVYLI’s 2010 and 2011 Youth Leadership Summit for Sustainable Development.   She has been an active member of MVYLI’s College Prep & Field Trip Program. She comes from a family working in the financial industry.  Sivana visited three colleges including Babson College, Brandeis University and the University of Massachusetts Amherst where she met with their finance departments. It convinced her that she wanted to pursue a career in finance.  She signed up for classes in marketing and personal finance to help her get a head start towards her goals.

Born in Sandy Bay Jamaica, Sivana’s family moved to Martha’s Vineyard when she was 10 years old where she attended Oak Bluffs Elementary School. After graduating from high school, her dream is to attend a four-year college and major in finance.

Sivana is really looking forward to meeting her Job Shadow Day mentor, Robert Ripley and learning all there is about finance.
